I understand Changez's feelings because I had a similar moment before. When I was in 7th grade, I got to know some 9th-grade brothers after I joined the Varsity tennis team. When I hung out with them, I felt like Changez when Jim sat his arm around his chair. I felt cool and accepted like one of the popular kids. Despite these feelings, I was sometimes anxious because I knew the relationship might not last forever.

Changez said that comparing the US and Pakistan made him ashamed. In the past, Pakistan was more advanced, but now the US is stronger. I had never thought about my own country this way before, and it made me reflect on Korea. Korea became one of the weakest countries during the 1900s, under Japanese rule and the Korean War. However, Korea has grown into one of the strongest countries now, which makes me feel proud.

The part when Erica talked about Chris in the cafe to Changez confused me. I am not sure if it is okay to talk about your ex in front of your crush. At this point, they would both know that they like each other. If I were Changez, I would feel a little uncomfortable when my crush talks about her ex, especially in a positive way. However, the book doesn't really describe Changez's reactions when he listens to her.

When Jim asked "What else?" after Changez talked about his GPA and his soccer story, I wonder what would have happened if Jim hadn't asked where Changez was from. He might have gotten rejected if the conversation had gone silent. Then I recalled my interviews at secondary schools in October. I can't remember which, but I was asked the same question. At first, I hesitated, but I managed to keep the conversation going.
