Chris, you were doing so well. And now all of a sudden, things have gone so off the rails. What is even happening?

If you turn your brain off, these books can be fun. But good fantasy should make you curious. It should make you think. I shouldn’t be questioning what the point is of literally anything happening.

WOW, was that a clunky explanation. This author doesn’t know his audience at all.

Something that really bugs me about these books is that these characters don’t actually have an established sense of self. Their motivations and personalities shift around as the plot demands it, making it feel as if you don’t know them four books in. It’s very annoying.

This is the first time in four books that I actually like David. Also, that scene was straight out of when Gandalf comes back in The Two Towers.

It honestly feels like he wanted to make this young adult, not for kids. Like he wanted that to have been the plan for this series from the beginning.

This is straight out of Spy Kids and it’s hilarious.
