I had been reading "Lonesome Dove," by Larry McMurtry, a novel that has received resounding praise from many critics. But I have put it down, after getting to a part representing a heartbreaking turn of events for fictional characters in a dusty setting of post-civil war Texas, near the border with Mexico. You see, I suppose I prefer to be heartbroken by actual events; hence I have begun reading Mikhail Zygar's book.
