“To be clear, generalized anxiety provides a soft churning of dread fueled by DNA, reaching back thousands of years to people constantly on the run and/or being persecuted. As a Jew, a pervasive low hum of anxiety is my birthright. Being closeted and bullied for being overtly fabulous in school only amplified it. Returning to work after a break shakes sprinkles on the anxiety sundae I prepare and devour daily.”
