Did the nightmares prey on these people, making them nightmares too but keeping them detached from their memories? And if so, how the fuck did that machine come to be?

Developments. That gap in Yumi’s memory worries me. Hopefully it’s not a monumental moment. Design deconstructed time travel theory and showed the other Yoki here, so same world then. The stacking works on the shroud just like it did with the stable nightmare, so there is reason to it.

We about to meet someone. Hoid are we no longer going to be a coat hanger?!

As for the spirits, I might have been right in some regard? The spirits are connected to the nightmares, but are also the source of the hion. In the sense that once the spirit is summoned they extract the “soul” to power themselves, while the nightmare is the soulless spirit looking for its way home. Maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️
