Humbert robs Lolita of her agency and voice as her words are always filtered through his own narrative. As well, Humbert has proven to be a liar at worst and a fantasist at best throughout the text, and he wants the reader to trust his version of events.

If anyone reads this and does not understand Humbert Humbert to be an unreliable narrator, they missed the entire point.
