I didn't end up finishing this, but the first few chapters were fascinating - particularly the evolution of clothing from being rigidly tied to class towards expression, tracing the protestant revolution and the nun's habit as emblematic of evolving sartorial standards, etc. Ultimately the book was too academic for me to finish but maybe I'll come back to it one day.
