I am fascinated by her accounts of adolescence into young adulthood. Specifically her detailed recall and reflection on the relationships that changed impacted her. I’m amazed by her vivid memory– the honesty in how she recounts her near daily existential crisis or the “the feeling”, loving yet fear generating relationship she had with her mother, and the self awakening one with Jay.

I’m learning so much about the BPP and their grounding in socialist ideology. It seems that just as she found herself swept up into revolution I’m finding myself quick swept into this world as well the characters she’s mentioning make me feel properly uncomfortable in ways especially the elder BPP that she just met. I love how I’m now able to compare observations from Baldwin’s work on race relations.
