desperately needed at least 1 more round of editing. pacing in the middle half (25~75% thru) is very weird. prose is juvenile but maybe that's how all late-2010s YA was? (taking notes for review 👍)

if im remembering the last chapter or so correctly, it seems our main character and her love interest (childhood best friend) are driving from NEW YORK to CALIFORNIA? which is a really very teenage decision to make and they are both 18ish. also i forgot about the tendency towards timeskips / absence of material to mark passage of time in (2010s-present?) YA novels ...

contrary to what some other reviews have said, this book is trying to show AND tell, while the two are contradicting each other. and the prose is juvenile...

the prose really does not hold up. definitely first novel...
