Soooo is it just okay that all the passengers die because they hold contrary beliefs?

I recognize the whole section is showing how a catastrophe isn’t just random chance but many explicit decisions to evade personal blame, but this a harsh way to illustrate that an uninformed public is also at fault

“[Robin Hood] was the man who robbed the rich and gave to the poor. Well, I’m the man. . . who robs from the thieving poor and gives to the productive rich.”

I’m irrationally irritated about Robin Hood being taken out of the context of feudalism, where the poor were productive and the lords didn’t do a goddamn thing.

517-523. How did Rearden just have this massive revelation of philosophical exposition and I’m still not even halfway through this book?

I shouldn’t have to do anything that other people want me to do (also, they’re too dumb and immoral to understand they’re wrong)? Kinda selfish

Is it romanto-normativity that’s making me see Rearden and Francisco’s relationship as a little gay? I have no doubt there’s fan fiction about it, with and without Dagny as a third. Canon, there’s gonna be a strangling match when they both find out the one woman they each love is the same woman.

Tell Atlas… to shrug? They said the thing! They said the thing!

I’m a little offended on Dagny’s behalf that no stranger has come to her and convinced her to retire overnight.

Things I dislike about this book:
1) how often the characters behave in a “contemptuous” or “mocking” way. Get new words, Ayn
2) the prescience of Rand’s dystopia because then what if she’s right about other things? 🤪 (“[Y]ou’re speaking as if this book were addressed to a thinking audience. . . . But it isn’t. It’s addressed to the public.”)
