Although it is idealistic to think this perhaps, I think I like the Anne books is that it seems like they were just really happy and healthy back then! E.g. it always amazes me how she knows all the plants by name; and the narration about scenery is so vivid. They do so many fun things outdoors. They don’t have cellphones and get to have the fun of receiving letters and hearing news in person.
