jesus this book is so over-written, it's getting increasingly irritating as I go on

girl. what. her plan is so bad, shes like well on the off chance my friend is here lol!!!! im. so lost.

Okay this sequence is going so hard, why can't we keep this quality for the rest of the book???? there is a good story in here FIGHTING to be released

Gosh what a way to introduce Max's POV, so intrigued rn (max remains my favorite character) (weird war thing has still not been explained, I'm losing hope.)

MC did soemthing smart. I thought to myself: oh, that was pretty smart. Only for the book to continue BEATING ME OVER THE FACE with the prose and other characters telling us HOW BRILLIANT SHE IS WOW SHES SO SMART AND PERFECT, even though im pretty sure she just made an enemy out of the guy whose support she needs? Whatever, the politics in this book are just set dressing.

Surprisingly, I remain charmed by the characters and rooting for their romance, a pleasant surprise since romantasy usually loses me with their bland leads. If only the 'war' they're waging or the society they live in made any sense. It's so bizarrely modern in really annoying ways --- some characters use therapy speak at each other and it's making me crazy.

I remain rather confused. Why do they need numbers (read, untrained civilians) to march on this guy's castle? Presumably this nation has a standing army?? either poor writing or a clever indication that smth is not right

shoutout max for being the first romantasy love interest that Im somewhat charmed by. He is not made for this! Neither am I!

God I sure hope we get some reasoning as to why the war happened in the first place, beyond vague hand-wavey 'they were seperatists the whole time.'

did not realize this was romantasy when I picked it up (oops) but i shall soldier on anyway. I like the main character okay, she's annoyingly naive for a character who should know a lot more about the way the world operates, but I appreciate her stubborn work-till-failure approach to problems (I do that too) I feel iffy about the way this book handles lots of topics, so we'll see where this goes.
