French bourgeoise Jews saw Hitler as "a braggart with no future" and didn't take his ravings seriously. They sided with the nationalists and acted like the communist movement was the biggest threat. Immigrant Jews were much more likely to join the resistance because they had no illusions about antisemitism and were already used to illegal activity having worked illegally as immigrants. hmm
