I’m mind blown by Kennit. This is the most complex and lively description of a sociopath I’ve ever read. His cunning, his manipulation, are just fascinating. His and Wintrow and Vivacia’s are, imho, the most compelling arc of the story.

This love triangle thingie is giving Romantasy, I don’t care what anyone thinks of the label (it’s also the least compelling bit of the book so far, although the two are unrelated).

So the initial rule was to intersperse other books in between Real of the Elderlings ones, but I feel this makes no sense for this trilogy, which feels like one big book. So I’m going to dive right into book 2.
