Speed-rereading and yet annotating like an absolute mad woman for the sake of Advanced Photography. I’m pairing this with Camera Lucida (Roland Barthes) as backing to then hopefully produce my own memoir-like exploration of both photography and poetry, highlighting the generative paradoxes of each and the compound witness of such sight and speech together. Or something like that. We’ll see. LORD, HELP!!

An earthbound soul disintegrating, useless raw material, anger and fear that themselves assume a light left to see, the ever active “why?”, and risking the inadequacies in the hopes they’ll be transcended. I wasn’t planning on finishing the rest of the “Varieties of Quiet” chapter in one sitting, but I kept hearing my own self and semester echoing back at me. The tears felt important. This strange time.

Feeling very met and understood, like there’s a conversation happening between just the two of us that is somehow very anchored in both of our particular stories. I chose this as an additional text for a class, but it has been serving me so much more wholly. It has become a safe space in a really difficult time, and it seems like one of the few things that is actually helping me right now. I’m thankful.

I don’t think I’ve ever cried within the first four lines of a book, but that little stanza got me
