Utter visceral hatred for Maxim and Danvers

The main horror so far is this marriage, poor girl. You don't even need a literal ghost like the related Bag of Bones, the metaphorical one that's Rebecca's memory (and her widower) seems to be more than enough to ruin this girl's life. I do like the touch that this is to such a degree that even the reader never learns her name.
