Bah. I’m really struggling to like this - which is both surprising and a shame, as Tchaikovsky has been one of my favourite authors, and this is one of his most highly rated books. Must. Keep. Going…

Rosh Oh dear! Long way yet to go... I hope it improves for you, Ian. It's always tougher when a favourite author's book doesn't work for us.

Thanks, Rosh. Even at p179, I think the main plot may not have fully kicked in yet, so my fingers are firmly crossed! 😕

Jamie Sorry, Ian! I hope it picks up for you, especially since it's such a long one!

Thanks, Jamie. I think maybe because it’s such a long one that I’m trudging through an extended “setup” phase. We’ll see 😕

Nataliya Has it started to pick up for you, hopefully?

Well, this has been quite a slow read for me (for various reasons) but at (now) 34%, where they've just landed on the planet, I've finally got to a point where I can recognise a Tchaikovsky set-up: small number of people in a dangerous and inhospitable environment with limited resources (think Alien Clay or Shroud). I enjoyed those books, so I'm expecting things to pick up now (and it will be interesting to see some of his earlier work that are potentially "in the same style" as those books). Thanks, Nataliya.
