Did you read Shadow and Bone first or just jump into this series? Not sure what I wanna do

I just realized Goodreads has comments and saw this notification 3 months later. I did not read Shadow and Bone first. I read that these two books were in the same universe, but unrelated plot-wise, and that they were much better than Shadow and Bone. I wanted fantasy heist, and I got it.
