Ooooof. Some of the bits in here are hard to read aloud to my kids.

I guess I should've known, but I didn't realize malaria was in the US in the pioneer days.

I've read books that had parts that were more racist in them, but I can definitely see why this book causes so much controversy among parents. I wish I knew more about the history of this period and area. I may have to look it up a bit.
