lowkey what is happening anymore. Comfort is such a strange character like in one moment he says he’s super pragmatic and is focused on the future of Reconstruction in practical ways but then he’s actively helping black men who were falsely accused like can he just take a solid stance?? also idk why Vaughn suddenly doesn’t like Comfort

I’m liking comfort a bit more but he’s still very ignorant and just ignores the consequences of his actions. I’m interested as to why there are so many letters imbedded within the text.

wowowow I am loving this so far. The narrator is extremely snarky and absolutely hates our main character, Comfort Servosse. Not for no reason; he’s a man who ignores his wife’s wishes and blindly pursues the romanticism of serving the Union army. It’s refreshing to see Comfort’s disillusionment with Reconstruction’s upcoming difficulties called out by the narrator in stark terms.
