Not surprisingly, Charles Ingalls was one of the Squatters allowed to steal land from The Osage while in Kansas. They left months before the abilities to buy 900 acres for $50 down on a total $330 (he’d already paid $35), yet hard to root for them?? In their defense, the Gub’MINT was saying it was awwww’rite, so technically they weren’t breaking any laws.

Pre-checking this out I realized I could read this without having read any of the other “Little House on the Prairie” books. Fascinating historical background to Laura Ingalls-Wilder’s “sugar-coated” Memoirs.
