Brett Eden I could yap about this for days. Currently recovering alcoholic/addict/giving up vices of all kinds, and to see the white knuckle sobriety in Jack, someone with trauma of his own (given and received), it resonates hard. Please read Doctor Sleep after for a sobering (pun intended) view of where the right people, programs, and patience can get a legacy alcoholic. King and Danny, that is. This all started with uninstalling all social media and going into a solitude typically reserve for Jack Torrances of the Kubrick variety. I hope you enjoy this one, message me here or discord if you want to talk about the book!

Jake Blaha Yeah I’m very impressed with the depth of this book so far. This is by far the strongest start to any King I’ve read before and makes sense that this is most likely his masterpiece.

Brett Eden Doctor Sleep will make for an incredible duology then. I am interested in the wind-up to the Overlook more than the actual events taking place. The film is its own beast, sure, but there's something about the nuance in Jack Torrance of the book versus the movie. Same for Wendy and Danny. I feel that the movie was intended to show Jack as "gone" from the start, but the book is fleshed out in the way Jack suffers. The inner monologue of every character really brings out depth you can't find in 2-3 hours.
