I’m glad that I’m reading this novel before reading the highly-regarded biography of Margaret Fuller by Megan Marshall. This book tells her story from Fuller’s perspective. And from reading about Fuller elsewhere, she was much criticized by her contemporaries, especially other women. She was a first and often an only in her time. It must have been hard and lonely for Fuller. Pataki’s novel captures this.

This is my book club’s selection for February and I am thoroughly enjoying “Finding Margaret Fuller.” I’m surprised that I have never heard of her before this book. She was writer and editor, a friend and a contemporary of Emerson and Thoreau. Told in the first person, it’s immersive and fascinating. But I also want to read a biography of her; I checked one out from the library.
