Chapter 4 would be very useful for parents to read prior to teaching their children the catechism as he systematically goes through what is taught in each section enabling the parents to better explain to their children the overarching theology being taught.

First half of this book gives an excellent history of catechizing children and why, in particular, the Westminster Shorter Catechism is an excellent choice in training children. Johnson explains the importance of catechizing children and why every “faithful”, albeit imperfect, parent should confidently hope in the promises of God for the salvation of their children.
