1461, near Krakow: "The mouth looked like the slit that boys make in the pumpkins they carry on the eve of Allhallows."
Poland? Middle ages? Interesting...
My interest in the origins of Hallowe'en, which I still largely suspect are early Christian, continues...

Thank goodness for The Internet Archive! Otherwise, I'd be missing out on 35ish pages. All the other copies of this book I can find, new and used alike, have the same ISBN and, for all I know, I'd get another misprinted copy. I was able to read the missing pages (in another edition, but that's okay), and return to this crap hardcopy. It's not the first time Archive dot org has saved me. Please lend it your support.

ARGHHH - My stupid book jumps from page 114 to 147 (through to 178), then starts again at 147. Right in a climactic scene!
Is there a market for misprinted books?! DAMMIT!!!

I think I can already guess why this is rated 3.75 (at time of writing) - it's too educational. Thousands of schoolkids were probably forced to read it.
I'M enjoying it (though it is a little dry), but I'm in my 40s, so...
It's just making me want to visit Poland, so far. I also want pierogis.

Counting this for the "rebellion" slot of the Middle Grade Madness TBR Challenge. Might be a bit of a stretch, but not as much as whatever I chose for the "running" one. Apparently I don't read sporty books.
