I think the book is uniquely paced, since they’re memories. Sometimes it accelerates, then slows down or stops abruptly, as the author doesn’t remember anything after that. The events are retold in retrospect, therefore each memory has an undertone colour, either happy and vibrant or traumatising and gloomy.
