Sciona’s ignorant rage at realizing everything she’s ever known is unraveling is at both times heartbreaking and infuriating. It’s exactly parallel to current events: the people who are struggling to come to terms with how their beliefs/politics have hurt others but can’t ignore the truth. Sciona is going to go down kicking and screaming but I think she will come out on the right side of this.

The opening pages of this book are some of the most captivating I’ve read in a very long time. The author did a great job of setting up a high stakes conflict right from the very beginning, and she balances that with careful, precise world building. I am so impressed and I can’t wait to keep reading.
