two chapters in and there's been a ton of description of her friends/family/school but the only reference to her problem has been "I'm an alcoholic and I think you should know about it" and leaving it at that (grr!) how can a high school kid with no income be an alcoholic? where is she getting the funds? how come no-one has noticed? why is her life totally fine? is she just binge drinking at parties? i have questions

Her weekly allowance in 1976 is $10. In today's money that is like $80 per week. This (plus stealing from her dad's wallet) is how she pays for all the scotch she buys. (At that age I was working full time and had moved out of home!) Is it normal for a 17 year old to get an allowance from their parents and also that much???! This doesn't sound right...
