Okay. So I’ve only read the introduction and WOW this man is an artist as well as a scholar. He is SO painfully aware of how stiff and factual books like this can be, and at first, I misjudged him for being just that and bemoaning that he wasn’t enchanting me. But man. Two pages in an he’s slinging a Michael Angelo style brush in this book. I have to put the line that made me slam the book close and—

One thing that was kind of annoying me was the virgin captures stories because obviously they resulted from a mix of old fables and heavy misogyny and religious views, but— this man truly has some words to say. He is peeling back the layers of a dense thicket and sometimes I get tired but he gets back to his point eventually and I suddenly see the landscape beyond, the beauty— his last words of the chapter
