I'm clearly overreaching with this book, since I don't know much about either marxism or structuralism, but the question of reaching towards universality from my particular and limited viewpoint is mesmerising to me. Laclau's examples of Christian emancipation and the problem of evil are wildly stimulating in this context, and there's this curious notion of an empty signifier that can signify the system as a totality
