The fact she thought th future of the queer community is everyone was gonna move away from identity labels and that’s bad since it ignores distinct groups with different problems is kinda hilarious in the face of the 2020s “everyone’s a cat girl lesboy asexual” or whatever lmfao. She does kinda go over this tho! This book is somehow ahead of its time and still outdated. It’s an important read

If you take away ANYTHING from this book it should be that gender is not biology or socialization but a combination of the two. This is repeated in every chapter and I think it’s really important. It makes sense since a lot of times people say gender is just fully made up/socialized but if that were the case then everyone would be “normal”, socialization would’ve succeeded

“How much power is there in being a carrot on a stick” this is such a succinct way of putting it that immediately shuts down any argument imo lol

This does get a little repetitive at times but I completely understand why. I do find it really interesting her critique of saying gender is completely made up and that there’s definitely intrinsic knowing of your own sex/gender it just may be that you can express yourself in any way you like. I appreciate it because it does fill kind of a hole in that approach
