I was wrong about the pub date. Some review the heroine as a shallow woman. The characters are all complex. Probably the least shallow character is her lawyer husband who seems like a tool, like everything she’s against culturally, but is showing himself to be understanding and patient. I was so upset that the tile was stolen from her fireplace. I’m just praying that it’s restored before the end of the book.

Set in 2017, it makes me feel such a dread for the characters that I would not have had in 2019. I wish already that this book had a sequel. Everything in this book is so prescient. I like it even more than when I first tried to read it in 2017/18 when it came out, but it’s hitting really close to home with the theme of perimenopause, insomnia and women wanting to be alone.
