"Focus on me, Sperro," I say, lowering my voice, hoping he can hear me through the din. Sperro, the Lights want to claim you, heal you, save you for Their own, but you must choose Them.

"He will become immortal!" Callidus says.
"He was already born unto immortality! We all are," I shout, defying, Callidus. "But going into the abyss, killing all light, will strip him of that inheritance. It will only leave him ceaselessly blind. What right have you to forge your lack of vision over the life of a Lectus Born!”

Do not listen to him, Sperro, I think, hoping he will hear me. It is not greatness; it never was. It is misery. It is nothingness.

Fear is essential. Fear is what gives you visions of things as they really are. Fear is what keeps you from being deceived.
