Tender and grounded, it’s weighty in the everydayness of it. Like we’re just watching people go through their lives, but we see people being kind, people struggling, and people just being.
The main cast all capture something quite well from Victoria’s having nowhere to go and Maggie’s kindness, the boys being decent people but occasionally causing trouble the way boys do as well as their mother’s leaving.

Damn is Victoria’s story so affecting her finally having things turn upward only to be pulled back by Dwayne. And the McPheons are so incredibly awkwardly charming—it’s that they’re trying so hard and so worried about Victoria that really lands.
And Guthrie in his dignity as a father and teacher. No bullshit and does right by his boys letting them visit Ella and joining him in the dirty work.
