I get his main idea and disagree with it. He thinks consciousness comes about through purely material means via self-reference. His view leaves no room for the supernatural, miracles, or the soul. His account of consciousness cannot answer the question of origins. Rather, he simply encourages his readers to wonder at what is. He is really good at bringing various disciplines together, though.

So many words. It would help the reader if he put a summary at the end of each chapter because many of his chapters are anecdotal examples of his ideas.
