talks about Stieglitz, and the attempt to make “literate” beautiful photographs, thus creating a canon that Whitman didn’t believe in. After generalization, and abolition, comes parody and Diane Arbus. Get the ugly, bring the freaks, do transgression! Since photography is the only art that depicts reality as it is, she will show what (white upper-class) people don’t want to see, changing morals, saying fuck to ideals, being subversive, as others like Weegee or Warhol (even thought he was mocking). She was very right here
