This line, in lieu of everything that happened leading to the death of the woman who loved him, left me with goosebumps. The author beautifully weaves eternity into the narrative, reminding us that this life is only a shadow of what awaits.

Abramm longed to feel connected to God; it had been his life’s mission for the past eight years. As he stood on the threshold of taking his final vows to join the Brotherhood, something began to trouble his spirit. He could not reconcile the possibility that those eight years of devotion and schooling had been built on deception and manipulation—carefully designed to gain control over his heart and mind.

I love how the author portrays that when a soul is sensitive to the Spirit of God, it can sense any presence that is not of Him. Such a soul recognizes the scent of evil and feels the weight of unholiness.
