Issue 44: Improvisation of a Theme
What a title that hardly makes sense.
A decent issue that mainly serves to introduce five new characters rather than further the story. Expected by this point in the comic’s run but still makes for a story that makes you say “Yeah I guess that was alright.”
Joe count: 37.5 + 4 = 41.5

Issue 46: Who’s Who on Cobra Island
Good stuff! Zartan’s Ripcord and Ripcord’s Zartan. Both narrowly escaped with their lives! Glad to see Alpine and Quick-Kick getting some action after being introduced but watching Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes storm Cobra Island really stole the show

Issue 45: In Search of Candy
Rip-Cord’s gone rogue! He’s sure into it now as he comes to blows with Zartan, who uses his abilities as a master of disguise to…well disguise himself as Rip-Cord. But he’s in trouble too as two rival ninjas pursue him now knowing that he is the one behind their master’s death! Riveting stuff, can’t wait to see what’s next

Issue 42: Crossroads
Such a riveting issue and hardly a Joe in sight! I love how Hama has crafted a world that’s so rich the reader is invested in non-main characters that would have been one off side characters in any other story. A really great resolution to Wade’s story (maybe?) and I’m excited to see what happens next with Billy!

Issue 41: Strategic Diplomacy
Great issue! Really enjoyed seeing the Joes struggle in the wake of Cobra’s plans. Too often it’s felt like they’re the ones a step ahead of Cobra, so I’m glad to see their authority challenged a bit. Really entertaining action that keeps you on the edge of your seat til the very end

Issue 40: Hydrofoil
Oh boy, it’s Shipwreck
Bombarded with a couple new toys - I mean characters, but their introductions were fairly seamless. Interesting plot tho! Excited to see what happens next with the Appels and why Cobra wanted to detonate a fault line

Issue 39: Walk Through the Jungle
We’re so back
Reading this issue was like a breath of fresh air. While so much of Joe has been good, this feels like a return to form that the original two dozen issues had. Just some great adventures with soldiers giving important moral lessons about how freedom means the right to disagree

Issue 38: Judgements
I feel like the ball is finally rolling again when it comes to the intrigue and intricate plots Hama is known for. We’ve had our handful of new characters thrown at us, now it’s time to play with em! Glad to see Stalker back in action. Really interested to see the angle they play with Candy going forward. Plus the start of Storm Shadow and Billy’s relationship as master and apprentice!

Issue 37: Twin Brothers
Another good one. I like the introduction of Flint, Tomax and Xamot, although I’m starting to hope we get a bit more on the character side of the new characters being added to the series. It dawned on me that Blowtorch has been in a few issues and hasn’t done squat, but hopefully this will be fixed with Ripcord’s love life plot line. Starting to miss the OG 13
