Trying something different for once. I would usually brand this “trash” but attempting to broaden my horizons. Unsure what I think so far. Suppose I’ll have to put aside any feminism I have?

I feel like I’m trying to force myself to enjoy this. There’s occasional moments that are nicely written, very descriptive, with unusual word choices… but maybe just feels like it’s trying too hard to be evocative? Perhaps that’s the issue for me. Lots of it is like being slapped in the face with it. Can’t get over the slavery. Can’t connect to the characters or their supposed sordid history.

Honestly, this is such drivel. There’s not enough spice for it to be worth reading for that alone, as there’s only been one scene so far in 1hr 45 of audio. So it’s falling to the plot… which there is none. The dialogue is just silly. The protagonist owns a plantation and lust interest owns slaves. Can’t think of a bigger turn off. There’s nothing sexy about it.

This is very much not my style of book. I had hoped reading something like this might spice up my texting now I’m a singleton, but most of it is just hilarious “she was afforded a prime view of the man’s derrière which was quite noteworthy. It was not a part of the male anatomy she had had cause to study before. She found she quite enjoyed the ogling when the buttocks on show were so firm and well shaped.”
