sometimes in the speeches you’ll get a bracketed aside: [laughter]

and I am SO glad they chose to include these. it’s too easy to stop laughing. I think it’s valuable for young people now, in our current moment, to make space for laughter in our politics. it’s an effective and affective “fuck you.”

there IS a very pre-2016 feeling of hope throughout this, I’m not sure how to get this back

i appreciate taking this in smaller bites, since it’s a collection of interrelated interviews and speeches. i think this cuts the repetition, which itself is necessary to an extent

extremely relevant to the present moment. we need connection, at home and across the globe.

BUT reading this also feels all the more depressing in a post-2016 world because just how little has improved (or even worsened). “it is in collectivities that we find reservoirs of hope and optimism,” but it seems like we’re so much more isolated and fearful now than we were then.
