Read Scarecrow by Surendra Prakash.
The central character is Hori from Premchand’s Godan, who when the harvest season comes, notices the scarecrow he made, has now found life and harvested one fourth of their wheat field.
The panchayat decides against Hori and then Hori asks his children to tie him as a scarecrow so that no one ever touches their field again.

I like how the stories are very plain and simple if you are just trying to get past them, but give them time and imagine you are experiencing the emotions with them, then the stories becomes a lot more.
