This author is making me both hate and feel sorry for the protagonist of this one. It’s giving yellowface.

Dear Canadian authors, stop setting your books in the USA, especially NYC, come on!

Sarah Mac But only 320-ish pages? Ew. I hate consistently super-short chapters. During tense action scenes, ok, but not the whole book. 🫣

Kristina Ya the chapters are ~ 6 minutes each. But it’s a mystery so maybe it will be ok? So far it’s fast paced.

Sarah Mac True; at least it’s a genre that is supposed to be tense. I’ve read HF with super-short chapters & it was incredibly annoying. Just when you’d settle into one pov/scene it would flip to another…so frustrating.

Kristina Ya agreed, personally not a fan of a high number of short chapters for that very reason. I’m not that far in so it’s not bad so far.

Sarah Mac Having only one narrator (I’m guessing?) would def help. The few times I’ve read the dreaded short chapter multi pov HF, I’ve dinged them with low ratings. Oops. 😇

Kristina Yes it’s single narrator, first person pov
