Why did it take so long for it to get good? First half (previous review) was slow but as soon as they left to boats we have gore, sickness, mutiny, murder, The Thing on the Ice, etc.

Starting it back up…

17 hours into the audiobook with 11 hours to go and my libby loan expired. Several months wait.
It's a fine book, but sometimes it gets a bit boring. The interesting parts are enough to keep me listening, but do we really need 25 mins of describing 18 individual boats down to shape, size, etc.?
At this point there are about 150 men left, and they finally abandoned ship for an arctic camp. Everyone has scurvy.
