Listening to this for fun (a skip-the-line Libby loan just like the first in the series was for me last year) but noticing several examples of something my professor pointed in workshop: Tired clichés, metaphors, or even just common turns of phrases (ex: “like there’s no tomorrow”) really can take a reader out of the narrative. In this fantasy world it’s especially jarring.
