- a lot of foreigners of the safety zone also had a hard time after. The people’s republic of China launched a campaign to make Americans look like the were collaborating with the Japanese. The surgeon suffered a stroke. Minnie Vautrin commuted suicide. And John Rabe was ostracized by the Germans for trying to make the banking events public. He was left jobless and poor but got help with food and money from the people of Nanking
