this just feels so real; it's science fiction and dystopian but the way Butler has crafted the "what next" is just... like this is how it would go.

I'm happy to have a smart and capable protagonist, although Lauren is still 18 and has 18yr old desires

this is crazy actually; I knew some things were bound to go down in this but it just happened so fast and now all of a sudden it's like I'm reading a completely different story-- although this is what Lauren has trained for. She's a very bright, realistic, perceptive, and still always hopeful protagonist. Quite serious too- although there's not a lot of humor in the book in general.

That's okay, it's a message.

prescient, simple, and foreboding.

crazy how this was written in 1995(?) because the things Lauren is afraid of are so real. Also, her thoughts on God and the way to create a new form of society is incredible.

Keith is getting on my nerves though and I am *afraid* he is going to do something terrible

been needing to read this for a while

Lauren’s voice is refreshing, albeit painful. Her talking about how she believes space exploration is one of the only things left that’s a good thing is fascinating. Her dynamic w her family + walled community + outside world + god is also very intriguing. Her condition too!
