Darwin really focused on barnacles for eight years to put off his writings. I respect it.

Using cows/beef in an analogy for genes was a poor choice. Humans select the genes for the marbling when they choose to breed those specific cows to continue to produce that type of meat. I wonder if he meant that these genes are protecting other genes, ones with less marbling? I don't know. Very odd choice.
