Chapter 3 explains it. Her white mom beat her & took her to a white neighborhood in the 60s -70s. Theres a story about ain’t and aunt jemima that didn’t make sense. She calls Washington DC the south. Where black men guarded a white president. In that time period it would be difficult for a mixed child. She sees everything from the everyone is racist lens. All things she didn’t have is a personal racist attack

Now she’s throwing in names like we should know them. She’s talking about several generations of joplins. Should we know a small time group from the 1920s? And then says scholars say Mr Weiss taught joplin. Who’s Mr Weiss? What Joplin? I think she’s insinuating Mr Weiss is Jewish and he shouldn’t get credit. Hes dismissed as a teacher because of her racial biases.

How is this book nonfiction? She just makes things up. Calls them maybe-lies. Her mother was a racist that married a black man. She disliked the supremes unless they acted white. Her aunt was in foster care. But is she her real aunt and was her dad or mom is foster care? No clue. And her aunt dressed her up in a sequins dress as a young child so the supremes would notice since the aunt would get drunk and fight them

She makes some big claims like the Carter family stole songs and techniques without any proof and say maybe it was a lie. How many other maybe-lies are there? Is she for real? It’s the old I’ll say something is true without proof and then asks you to prove a negative. Not carters stole from him and here’s my proof but the carters stole from him prove that they didn’t.
