So her father—who had a habit of uber-risky business ventures—was a coward who killed himself after being ruined by the hero’s father, & her mother died from cancer after refusing compensatory damages paid out by the hero AFTER helping to send his creepy father to prison. And yet she wants to ruin the HERO’S life? 🙄 Why? The parents made their own stupid choices, & this revenge plan is nonsensical.

Yeah, sure. “Just one night,” blah blah. Like we haven’t read that five thousand times before. 🙄

This book has no plot. 🤖 They agree to marry. They stare at each other. He thinks he shouldn’t care that he’s suddenly attracted to her. She thinks she shouldn’t want him because she’s going to ruin him (sidenote: how this will happen is never really explained, while her reasoning is stupid to begin with). And…that’s it. NOTHING IS HAPPENING.

Great, another really long opening scene (which is still not over, btw) where the MCs do nothing but hold a drawn-out conversation punctuated with lots of mental monologuing backstory about why their lives have been terrible. 🥱

Trying this author yet again, because I’ve got this & another left on my Harley shelf. I’m not terribly optimistic, but who knows? [🚨 ATTENTION, DNF Assist Team: I may need your encouragement for this one. 🤭]

I agree! She sounds about as bright as her parents. 😆

Yeah, she’s monologuing about how she’s so driven to have revenge & then reveals these details up front. Then proceeds to rant about how the hero deserves it despite being a hardcore advocate for multiple anti-domestic-violence, anti-sexual-violence, anti-workplace-abuse funding, is a world-recognized pioneer of workplace safety/equality in his business umbrella, & has a fiancée who heads a bunch of charities & other women’s groups. Uh-huuuuh. 😂 Her reasoning is 1) he “convinced” her father to invest in his own father’s schemes years & years ago (before turning him in & offering restitution), & 2) he’s emotionally distant. *facepalm*
I love how she never once considers that maybe—just maybe!—his scummy dirtbag father deluded & conned the hero just as much as he deluded & conned everyone else, despite her own father’s failings toward her family. Naaaah. Hero just needs to suffer. And not anyone who *works* for him, just him. Because y’know. Ruining the owner/figurehead/spokesman of a zillion-dollar worldwide company totally doesn’t mess up the lives of workers under his responsibility & receiving his paychecks. Nope. …What an idiot bitch.

Right. And of course she disguises herself with plain white oxford shirts, black pencil skirts, & a tidy bun of hair. 🙄 To the guy’s credit, until this incident he made a big deal about not seeing his female employees as feminine or potential sex partners; it’s part of his entire business umbrella credo that women feel comfortable & be unharrassed in their workspace. Apparently his policies are uber-strict for all employees, esp for those in authority over others. He’s not a bad guy, really…the kind you’d want to work for in RL, totally, but a blah HP lead because of that.
