This is pretty well written, fun fantasy with the first book being a little better than the second. Royce and Hadrian are a classic duo in the vein of Fafrd and the Grey Mouser which is what makes these books fun. There is nothing, however, much game changing about them. Playing a little too standard and safe with the genre conventions. Also the femme characters are sparse and not given much to do.
